CV and Artist Statement

Rachel is a contemporary portrait and figure artist and Illustrator, living and working in Brampton, Cumbria. A fascination with drawing portraits as a child has developed into her chosen subject. Preferring acrylic on canvas as her chosen medium, she creates contemporary  portraits and works on a variety of other surfaces from wood and slate, to traditional papers and canvas.

Blending the natural beauty of figures and faces with abstract textures, patterns, flowers and animals, she creates digital montages, which form the source material for her paintings. Her work aims to capture femininity and beauty and the kinship with Mother Earth and nature.  The backgrounds to the artworks like people, have many layers, depths and complexities.

More recently she has been enjoying painting birds and occasional landscapes. Again on a variety of surfaces and objects.

After graduating from UCLAN in 1998 with 1st Class Ba(Hons) in Illustration Rachel has worked as a greeting card designer for Inspire By Design,  an art therapist for South Lakes Mind, running wellbeing art workshops, and occasionally enjoys running painting workshops around the North West. "I'd love to be able to teach more from my home studio, and will hopefully facilitate that in the near future.
